2008 Central Bank Texas Open Wrap-Up
The 2008 Central Bank Texas Open is now in the record books. And what a week it was…both on and off the court. Twenty-seven WISPA tour players were vying for the championship and, although there were a couple of notable upsets along the way, Natalie Grainger brought her A-game to Houston and showed us why she is the number one player in the USA. Also, our own Susy Willis is to be congratulated for using an open qualifier spot and crawling into the cage with world #40 Alana Miller. She did herself and Houston proud. The WISPA girls, as always, put on a great show for us and we are fortunate to be able to host such talented players in the Bayou City.
We had over seventy players in the amateur draws and the out of town contingent showed up in force bagging seven of the eighteen prize categories. Our junior draw was one for the record books with sixteen players – Congratulations to Signe Hovem for taking on the juniors program and making it a wonderful success.
I personally would like to thank everyone who supported the 2008 Central Bank Texas Open: the spectators, the players, the organizing committee, the referees, the volunteers, the WISPA player accommodation hosts, the private patrons, the corporate sponsors and, of course, our Title Sponsor: Central Bank and Mark Pickard. It was a real team effort and I owe you all my gratitude.
