New Mexico Squash Racquets Association
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The New Mexico Squash Racquets Association, in Association with Midtown Sports as Wellness will be holding the First Annual New Mexico State Squash Championships November 4 to 7. Not only will this be our State Championships, but it will also be a "Membership Drive" tournament. Each entrant will automatically become a member of the United States Squash Association as well as the New Mexico Squash Racquets Association. If you are already a member you may opt for a renewal or reduction in entry fee.
Divisions include 4 Skill levels, roughly corresponding to A, B, C, D as well as 3 age groups 40+, 50+ and 60+ for Men. Women’s Divisions include 2 Skill levels and Junior Divisions include two Age Groups.
This is a tremendous opportunity for players who are not currently members to join the USSRA/NMSRA. As a member you will receive the official publication "Squash Magazine". All members will receive a skill level rating. Whenever you play another rated player in a sanctioned match the results will be sent in to the USSRA and the rating will be adjusted. Our local NMSRA will also benefit by larger membership and should help us further our goals of promoting Squash in the State of New Mexico and helping to develop junior players.
This summer the NMSRA was able to support the International Grand Prix Pro Squash Tour Midtown Sports with a direct donation from the NMSRA of $500.00. We as well acted as a funnel for directing tax deductible donations of $3000.00 from Cain Guest Ranches, the primary donor to the event and an anonymous donation of $500. Other supporters of the event included Bauman and Dowd Attorneys, Everett Law, and Rick Jackson’s Ideal Auto Sales. This is the most exciting Squash to be seen in the State. The international level Pros are ranked far above any of the best US players, or all but one of the resident Pro’s. To put this in perspective: Even though these players are only rated 40th in the World or lower, the top rated US player is 138th in the World Standings, as published by the Professional Squash Racquets Association.
MEMBERSHIP
Attached is a list of the current membership. To the far right of the list is the membership number followed by the month of expiration of that membership. If your are receiving this newsletter without being on the list it is because we are trying to promote squash beyond the membership list.
Benefits that you will enjoy if and when you become a member will be a subscription to Squash Magazine, the only US Squash publication. You will also be rated according to skill level. When visiting Houston Pro and former World Top 30 Guy Cowen comes to New Mexico to teach, as he does every 6-8 weeks, you will receive a $5.00 discount on private lessons.
The NMSRA also plans to bring World Class Referee and Referee Instructor Rod Symington to Albuquerque this winter. Only USSRA/NMSRA will be able to attend.
