Howe Cup Committee
The Howe Cup Committee is replacing the former Regional Representatives group of Women's Squash. The Women's Committee has found that there is an undeniable need to establish a Howe Cup Committee to aid in the running of the tournament each year. This committee will maintain the Howe Cup website, maintain and enforce tournament rules and guidelines, establish a manual with US Squash for how to run an efficient and successful Howe Cup, collect and submit Women's Awards nominations to the Women's Committee, establish a bidding process for cities/clubs to ask to host the Howe Cup each year, help with fundraising and sponsorships for the tournament each year, help recruit participants and promote/advertise the tournament and provide general supervision for future Howe Cups. This is basically what the Regional Representatives had been doing already with added responsibilities.
This committee is headed by a member of the Women's Committee. The rest of the committee consists of a US Squash office person, several one-year term members (local representatives for wherever the Howe Cup will be held in that particular year) and several two-year term members (who have the option to keep renewing for as long as they and the Women's Committee agree). It would be ideal to have these two year members be geographically diverse and have an active role in the Howe Cup either through participation as players, fundraisers, past organizers, etc. We have not yet figured out how many people will be sufficient without getting the committee too big. The Women's Committee will vote on the make-up of the Howe Cup Committee annually. Committee discussions will be over conference call or through emails.
The way it is now the Howe Cup's success is too dependent on a few people each year who are able and willing to put on such a big event. We need to keep this tournament going and make it successful every year and build on the momentum that we have right now in Women's Squash.
